The welcome drink. The tequila tasting. The nightlife photos. The minibar stocked with beer. The assumption is that, of course, you came here to drink.
But what if…you don’t?
Maybe you’re a teetotaler or in recovery. Maybe you were raised baptist (like me!) and your faith shapes what you will and won’t consume (or in what quantities). Maybe you’re pregnant, cutting back, tired of hangovers, traveling with kids, or simply not interested in spending your vacation surrounded by a heavy drinking scene.
And that’s exactly why I wrote this blog.
You deserve a resort where you can ask for something pretty, refreshing, layered, and alcohol-free and not feel like you’re inconveniencing the bartender.
Note: I cannot confirm that every listed drink will be available every day, at every bar, or during every season. Use this as a guide, not a guarantee.
What makes a resort better for non-drinkers?
A strong non-alcoholic-friendly resort usually has more than one of these:
- Actual mocktails or zero-proof cocktails (and even a menu!).
- Smoothies, fresh juices, coffee drinks, teas, or wellness beverages.
- Traveler reports from people who don’t drink and still felt like they had options.
- Alternatives to partying, clubbing, or alcohol-centered entertainment.

Resorts I would be more cautious about
Note: This doesn’t mean “never book them.” It means ask questions before booking.
Famous for nightlife/partying (ala Breathless resorts)? You might want to pass. One reviewer mentioned Royalton CHIC Cancun not making her a non-alcoholic drink even after she had requested one several times.
What to ask before booking
Ask the resort:
- “Do you have a current mocktail or zero-proof cocktail menu?”
- “Can alcohol be removed from the minibar before arrival?”
- “Can the welcome drink be non-alcoholic?”
- “Do you have a coffee shop, juice bar, or wellness beverage station?”
And if you’re in recovery, I’d be even more specific. Ask whether your room can be alcohol-free before arrival, and whether staff can note your preference (a good travel agent can handle that for you. I know a really good one here! 🙃).

Final thoughts
I genuinely believe that an alcohol-free vacation should still feel amazing.
You should still get the pretty glass. The garnish. The layered flavors. The “surprise me” drink that does not come back as a Diet Coke with a splash of lime (not that there’s anything wrong with Diet Coke!).
